I Need a Kick in the Pants

Because that's always so helpful.

A swift kick? Even better!
But not so much in the helping dept. for me,
I've found over time.

A slow kick would be much more motivating...
Especially if it gave me time to escape and
contemplate my existence a bit.

Clearly I haven't done that here..
Yet.
It's been long time no write,
And I'm breaking that streak open a mile wide...
Just so that, hopefully, I can write something
Else, later, better, whatever.

Jackhammer please?
And a scalpel in waiting.

Funny Or Die.com: Protect Insurance Companies PSA

Pretty much speaks for itself,
In just as odd and 'off' a way as I've heard
In real life. Goofy there,
If not so devious and dangerous.

The black and white, reverse silhouette
Is a nice touch...

Lions and tigers and cobras...
Oh my.

Postscript Girl Rides Again - 'Peace Day' Still in Force(!)...

Well, I did it again... Posted without 'Full Thought'
If such a thing is even possible?
One can hope. I feel hope fluttering somewhere close.

Okay.
Postscript girl came down from the attic to remind me.
With musical accompaniment too!

So here's the 'train' of thought I had after I made the last post
(and no pun intended, but nice that every word chips in):

Naturally I thought of the song, "Peace Train" by the once-named
Cat Stevens. It's just hard-wired to the concept, I think...
In my brain since early 1970's - playing loftily somewhere in the background.
Therefore it will have pride of place: last.

But then that led to me thinking of another of his songs:
"Oh, Very Young." Our species is 'young,' yes?
That gives us part of our strengths and weaknesses.
From time to time an extraordinary human model
Rises up so vividly so all can see - even if in periphery
And as they struggle - the model and the mortal - all,

...lessons are learned.

And that led me to think of the tougher side of peace -
In U2's song, "Peace on Earth," which broaches the subject
of 'An eye for an eye until all the world is blind.'

But wouldn't it be something to aim for anyway...
For the people who have had their eyes and hearts
Removed and their whole lives quaking.
While vengeance must tempt the membrane;
Isn't peace desired by most people we know?

And so, I add that song as well.

Why does the idea of Peace seem so counter-intuitive?
The thing I thought of first was "The Time Machine,"
Where the people living on the surface
Were peaceful lambs who did nothing for themselves.

Kind of ruins the image, as have so many other
Authors and commentators of civilizations.

I think that often the key missing ingredient is: >

All must strive to be at peace within themselves before attempting...

To bring it about on the outside... >

Failing that, a balanced hand-in-hand approach? >

What that leads me to think is that it's either:
1) a deeply inbred knowledge that violence IS - and will always be -
part of the equation
or 2) we are getting signals from a more primitive part of our brain
than the human part and its potentialities...
or 3) something else I haven't considered.

Which would be a good thing, remembered by all -
Anyone can forget a piece of the puzzle at any time.
So certainty needs balance as well as any other thing
In this world we share.

It's 'Peace Day!,' Really: ONE Day....?

Just as every day might be called Mother's Day,
Father's Day, Sister's Day, Brother's...
But there's one that's special to remind us.

Each day ultimately could be said to emanate
From that place where the Center does hold
And Peace rises, dissolving into itself as
It rises again.

I would very much like to see this film..
The trailer, above,
Stirred something in me.
Really glad I took the time to watch it.

As I don't think I ever really knew
This concept of "Today is 'Peace Day,'"
Except as it arbitrarily shows up here and there
Throughout history - where a reason is acknowledged by all:

One Christmas in the trenches of WWI,
For example.... or the time I broke through my
Impulsive anger and hugged the projection screen -
Wait - it's a person; now we smile and hug each other;
Storm passed.

So many times, so many lives, so many examples.

Ah well, always good to hear about efforts in this
Direction as someday soon they just may knit together.

The peacemakers in overwhelming numbers
Infect the population with their avid intention
And commitment to moving forward on a number
Of important challenges to our species.

Why not?
Yeah, I've heard that argument before too...
But it just doesn't wash with me anymore.
Maybe when the cynics' voices grow tired from so much
Overuse, even we will be able to hear the drone for what it is....
A mosquito we'd rather not have to harm.

It will be time to get over it, advance to the next
Level on the way toward the maturity of humanity.

Peace: Not just a video game anymore!

The Leaf, the Leaf, the Leaf is on Fire

Autumncolors'NewHampshire.jpg

"Autumn colors, New Hampshire" by Jules Cowan

A bit of an existentially aware morning, this one.
Sitting here by the windows, looking out at all the greenery,
I realize that the reason I feel such distress is that
Most of my identity at this moment is tied up in the leaf.

What happens to the leaves happens to 'me.'
And in this erev-Autumn day, where the leaves are
Pulling their sugars, photosynthesizing cells, & amino acids
Together for one last amazing display before falling
Down to nourish what remains of trunk, branches, sap, root

I, too, feel that "Gathering up" for
The Fall of myself,
In some way I have not yet understood.

Ode to Friends

"Dandelions "  by Henryk T. Kaiser

I turn over each jewel in my mind
And receive the love that always flows
Toward and from me between every kind
Of friend I've had the great fortune to grow
Along the journey, alongside, I know.
Gratitude fills my heart and mind.

"I'm falling asleep on the keyboard,"
typed one friend tonight, and  now
I know exactly how that feels...
Once again.

Will have to add to this later.
Picture for friends near and far...
And those in the pre-dawn phase,
Yet to come.

Whatever would I do without you?
Honestly, I do not know.

Autumnal Equinox - 5:18pm Tuesday, September 22nd, EDT

True - all things being equal
During the Vernal & Autumnal
Points of transition...

Seasonal habitats have an internal
Clock that triggers things deep within
Living beings. Humans & perhaps others
on our blue world can, if they're
Both lucky and strong, experience
The conscious version to whatever degree.

I was thinking about the word, 'poignancy'
That I meant to include in my last post
About the ephemeral nature of the
Burning Man gathering, and life in form.

I immediately came upon the same theme
In a completely different creative display.
At first, when I read the title,
"SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER"...
I thought it mean LAST summer, as in 2008.

But now that I have injected my own personal meaning
Into this collaboration of artist and viewer in the
Party in MY brain,
I think it means something subtler.
Suddenly, the summer I'm  living has become and
IS last summer.

And at such and such a time and day,
It will no longer be this summer in the stories we tell
The way we catalog them in our brain,
Our sense of self in time.

Always ready to be evoked in full splendor
At a concentrated moment of focus...
Once again, the form can emerge from within
The depths to be visited like an old reel to reel movie
Of when you shoved ice cream in your little sister's
mouth one summer a million years ago when age 3.

Autumn is my favorite time of year, though
***'now'***
Has come to be the best time going <period>.
NOW is when I experience all the memories
In Living Technicolor.
Again.

And at this moment... and this one too...
It is nearing the tipping point toward fall again.

Burning Man 2009 Time-Lapse

My eyes twinkle at nonexistent, or rather...
Similarly filed memories -
When I watch the following clip
Of this year's "Burning Man" Community.
Here is their site's description of the event:

'Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather
to create Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert,
dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance.
They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.'

As a once-teacher, I can only envision that sheer number of
People working well together and making sure everyone
Cleans up the host environs before they go.
Looks absolutely gorgeous,
And then.... poof.

Just like everything does in the world of form.
Before us to infinity...
And after, about as long.. ;)

Here is the URL:
http://www.burningman.com/
There's even a phone number... looks like they want to
Be supportive and help everyone who wants to be there.

I'd heard about the cause celebre before then,
But my brother, H.M. has gone there the last two years,
His words and twinkling eyes were  the clincher...
(Cheers, H.!)

And so, like many people commenting on this video said,
"It's one of the things I'd love to do..."
Whilst still on this planet.

Having gone to other gatherings with similar
Intent and mission statement...  <why not?>
The often amazingly-balanced gatherings
Work with people's spontaneity, openness, & civility
To create an ephemeral thing of beauty > joy forever.

Yes, even though the 'form' in specifics - be gone

Thanks to 'Delrious' and the folks with labors & joys

Enjoy their/his creation... if you want.

Happy New Year.

"Organic Honey Running into a Honey Jar" by Paul Blundell

Whenever you find yourself experiencing a new beginning,
An inner contemplation of life, world, and self;
Opening up to a Beginner's Mind one more time...
...that's a Happy New Year - new day, hour, second.
A heady mix of awareness and openness,
Of intent and a willingness to see and act..

I wish sweetness, peace, health, and joy to all.
EVERY day. Every year. Now.

I appreciate this message from President Obama.
Seeing the big picture and larger opportunity,
While earnestly addressing particular histories
And cultures, reaching out to each other.

May it be so. A life a dream a life a dream.

Ides of September

"September" by Pierre Leduc

Well, it's over now, isn't it; a missed opportunity.
I subjected this draft to a subject and left it there
In preparation for the main event,
But it's now the 16th, and the race to the finish has begun.

Nah - don't take me too seriously.
Nobody's racing.
The steady track just moves beneath our feet.

The power to control time.
We all have it.
That's the funny thing - it can be done.
One minute *can* be a lifetime.

But I missed the Ides and wave belatedly
Back at it for this year.
Who knows where things will be next year
At this time.
Cool to tick it off in hash marks on an
Inviting stone cell wall.
A collage surrounding...

Autumn is my favorite time of year
For so many reasons..
New Year, new beginnings...
The trend toward slowly pulling within;
Contemplation and a different
Flavor of attention... than the one
Summer beckons.

New enterprises for everyone - if you can't
Locate yours, peer under the closest stone.
Down the rabbit hole you go!

Happy September's second half, folks.
Embrace your ascendance and entropy
Together as one will inevitably morph
Into the other and back once more.

Lava lamp of the inner shores.
